Chris Cantrell, a founding member of Doyle APC, has been practicing law since 2003 and is licensed in California. Mr. Cantrell has dedicated his career to representing people injured by dangerous and defective products, particularly medical devices and prescription drugs. He also has substantial experience in consumer and antitrust class actions.
Mr. Cantrell has represented thousands of people harmed by defective medical devices and prescription drugs, in cases involving pelvic mesh, Vioxx, DePuy hip implants, Mirena IUD, ephedra, OxyContin, fentanyl pain patches, Baycol, Medtronic ICD batteries, Medtronic Sprint Fidelis leads, Lipitor, Fen-Phen, Kugel hernia mesh patches, and Prempro. He has successfully resolved cases on behalf of hundreds of women injured by pelvic mesh products, and he currently represents clients in the Bard PowerPort, Covidien hernia mesh, and Suboxone dental injury litigation.
Mr. Cantrell has extensive experience in complex class actions, including In re Managed Care Litigation, MDL No. 1334 (S.D. Fla.), in which his former firm represented hundreds of thousands of primary care physicians. The physicians brought RICO claims against the nation’s largest health insurers, alleging that the insurers used claims-processing software to systematically underpay them.
Mr. Cantrell has also worked on several antitrust matters, including In re Pharmacy Benefit Managers Antitrust Litigation, MDL No. 1782 (E.D. Pa.), and In re Platinum and Palladium Commodities Litigation (S.D.N.Y.), in which Doyle Lowther LLP, the predecessor to Doyle APC, served as lead counsel for a class of physical platinum and palladium purchasers. The plaintiffs alleged that MF Global and one of the country’s largest hedge funds conspired to artificially inflate platinum and palladium futures prices through manipulative trading in the final moments of the NYMEX trading day, a practice commonly called “banging the close.” The firm secured a settlement under which class members recovered nearly all their provable damages.
Mr. Cantrell has represented consumers in product defect class actions against Apple Inc., Samsung Electronics, and LG Electronics. Mr. Cantrell also represented numerous individuals and families who lost homes, personal property, and businesses in the 2007 San Diego County wildfires.
Mr. Cantrell is admitted to practice in all California state courts and in the U.S. District Courts for the Northern, Eastern, Central, and Southern Districts of California. Mr. Cantrell is also admitted to practice before the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the Tenth and Eleventh Circuits and the U.S. Court of Federal Claims.
Mr. Cantrell graduated from the University of Alabama at Birmingham with degrees in criminal justice and chemistry. He earned his J.D. from the University of Alabama School of Law in 2003, where he served on the Campbell Moot Court Board.
