
William Doyle is a founder of Doyle APC. Since 1998, he has represented consumers and injured people in complex litigation against manufacturers of defective consumer products, vehicles, and medical devices. Courts throughout the United States have appointed him lead or co-lead counsel in national class actions and multidistrict litigation.
Mr. Doyle’s practice focuses on holding manufacturers accountable for dangerous and defective products. His experience includes litigation against Apple, Honda, Sony, LG, and other major corporations, with cases involving consumer electronics, vehicle defects, and medical implants.
Mr. Doyle also represents people seriously injured by defective medical devices. Doyle APC represents individuals with claims involving hernia mesh implants manufactured by C.R. Bard and Covidien, a subsidiary of Medtronic, and has handled hernia mesh claims against Ethicon and Atrium Medical. The firm’s attorneys have also resolved hundreds of claims on behalf of women injured by pelvic mesh products.
His consumer product litigation includes the Apple iPhone power button case, in which he served as co-lead counsel in a certified class action that settled for $20 million on the eve of trial after more than six years of litigation. In the Honda Civic Hybrid litigation, he and co-counsel represented California consumers asserting battery defect and fuel economy misrepresentation claims, resulting in a settlement valued by class counsel at up to $400 million.
Mr. Doyle also served as co-lead counsel in the Sony VAIO trackpad litigation, a certified class action resolved shortly before trial with up to $32 million available for class members to claim. In the NVIDIA graphics chip litigation, he and co-counsel obtained a settlement providing eligible consumers with repairs or replacement computers at no cost, as well as reimbursement for qualifying out-of-pocket repair expenses. His additional product defect litigation includes cases involving LG smartphones and Apple iMac computers.
Earlier in his career, Mr. Doyle served as lead or co-lead counsel in significant internet privacy cases, including In re Pharmatrak, Inc. Privacy Litigation, In re Amazon.com Privacy Litigation, and In re DoubleClick Inc. Privacy Litigation. In the TransUnion credit privacy litigation, he served as co-lead counsel, helped secure certification of a class of approximately nine million Illinois consumers, and helped negotiate a nationwide settlement valued at more than $109 million.
Before founding Doyle APC in 2017, Mr. Doyle co-founded Doyle Lowther LLP in 2008 and served as its managing partner. He previously spent a decade at Milberg Weiss Bershad Hynes & Lerach LLP, where he became a partner.
A San Diego native, Mr. Doyle earned his undergraduate degree in economics from the University of San Diego and his law degree from California Western School of Law in 1996. He is admitted to practice in state and federal courts throughout California and before the United States Courts of Appeals for the First, Second, and Ninth Circuits. He has served on the board of directors of the Association of Business Trial Lawyers and as a director of the San Diego County Bar Foundation.
